The solar industry plays a critical role in the transition to a clean energy future and energy independence. Local solar energy provides a secure, equitable, cost effective, and environmentally responsible alternative to many of the adverse consequences of traditional energy generation.
Because solar installers represent the industry to customers and communities, the Solar Indiana Renewable Energy Network (SIREN) and Solar United Neighbors of Indiana (SUN) have created a Solar Installer Code of Ethics intended to protect the Indiana solar industry, promote reputable companies, and help ensure that consumers can have confidence in their installers. The Code of Ethics contains business and professional practices consistent with ethical standards in other states and solar industry organizations.
Companies who sign the Ethics Pledge will be listed on our contractor listing page. Being listed on the website does not constitute an endorsement by SIREN and SUN.
SIREN and SUN expect solar installers doing business in Indiana to sign and adhere to the following Ethics Pledge to avoid appearances of impropriety:
- Our company maintains high ethical standards of advertising, sales, installation, and service guided by the principles of honesty and integrity.
- Our sales personnel are knowledgeable and trained in the solar products they market, to provide customers with up-to-date, understandable product and utility policy information.
- The capabilities, performance, and energy savings potential of solar products and systems, as well as warranties and financing, are presented in an honest and transparent manner.
- Estimates of future utility price increases and the financial benefits from solar are supported by data from reliable independent sources.
- Our company applies government and utility incentives in compliance with program regulations and fairly and transparently represents the impacts of such incentives in all consumer transactions.
- We design, build, install, operate, and maintain products using best practices compatible with public health, safety, and environmental values and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- We do not make deceptive or misleading advertising claims, whether by statement, implication or omission.
- Solar systems are not described or advertised as “free” in oral or written marketing or sales discussions unless the consumer will pay nothing for the solar system or the energy it generates.
- Our company is transparent in dealing with subcontractors and holding all subcontractors to the same ethical standards set forth in this document.
- Our company does not partner or contract with, or otherwise receive services from, solar lead generation organizations that make deceptive or misleading claims in advertising or in interaction with potential clients.
